Bryan Hayes at SSM City Council January 23rd:

We have far and away the best downtown in Nothern Ontario for a multitude of reasons, and we intend to keep it that away. And we can’t do that without community input, and community muscle.

-Bryan Hayes

At tonights council meeting (click here for SooToday coverage, beginning at 29:24) Bryan Hayes had the opportunity to address the community regarding the Downtown Association’s strategic planning process, the first major undertaking of the new Board of Directors. Hayes stated that much had been done in regards to planning already and the Association is now ready to move into a public consultation stage with its stakeholders. Soon a questionnaire will be made available and open houses will be announced.

It was also announced that the strategic planning process is being facilitated by subcommittee chair and Board Director Rory Ring Chamber of Commerce CAO.

During his time at the podium Mr. Hayes also took the opportunity to thanks many members of council, and City staff for work done in the past few months. Mentioning the success of 2016’s Moonlight Magic, a success due to efforts as Hayes puts it:

By our manager Josh Ingram…his volunteers…a parternship with the city, Larry GIrardi who was instrumental, CAO was at the event, the Mayor, Councilor’s Turco and Niro who did some judging, Councilor’s Hupponen and Myers offering suggestions and good advice…Councilor Romano was there as well.

Hayes went on to thank the interim board for their time and efforts, and welcomed the returning and new additions to the Downtown Associations Board.

Bryan finished by saying the board and staff of the DTA spent the last Saturday together working on strategic planning, and you must be passionate and excited to give up a Saturday.

The questionnaire for membership should be available in the coming week (January 30th)
