Kalle Mattson is a Juno & Polaris Music Prize nominated singer/songwriter based in Ottawa. Since 2009 he has released four full-length albums & two EPs to critical & commercial acclaim. His first music video for “Thick As Thieves” gained over 1,000,000 views & was covered by Time Magazine, NPR & The Huffington Post. It was followed in 2014 by Mattson’s third full-length studio album, the Polaris Music Prize-nominated “Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold”, which was inspired by his hometown on the Canadian/U.S. border and the death of his mother five years prior. It received glowing reviews from Pitchfork, Pop Matters, Rolling Stone, & Exclaim called it - “simply, a benchmark in fearless songwriting.” It was promoted by multiple tours across Canada, the US & Europe. August 2015 saw the release of a new EP, “Avalanche”, which Mattson described as a mini-LP concerning the twenty-something miasma of "anxiety, nostalgia, the past, the future." The music video for “Avalanche” received widespread media attention & was nominated for a 2016 Juno Award, a 2016 Much Music Video Award & won the 2016 Prism Prize. On 2018’s “Youth.”, Mattson set out to make a coming-of-age album about the in-between days of post-adolescence and pre-adulthood. It was released to rave reviews with Dominionated saying - “file it under instant classic.”

His newest project “summersets”, a duo with longtime collaborator Andrew Sowka, debuted in 2020 with a collection of narrative driven songs set in small town Northern Ontario centred around two characters who meet as summer is coming to end. Their full-length debut, ’small town story’ is out June 9th 2023. Mattson currently teaches at Carleton University.

Summersets:

Summersets is the new duo of Kalle Mattson, one of Canada's most acclaimed singer-songwriters, and Andrew Sowka, who apply Everly-esque harmonies to a song cycle spanning the life of two lovers, which ends in tragedy. Influenced by the storytelling of John Prine and delivered with the delicacy of Simon & Garfunkel, summersets' debut full-length, “small town story”, was produced by Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards, The Weakerthans) and is out June 9th 2023.

Cacao Ceremony

April 23rd, join us under the full moon, for a heart opening Cacao Ceremony.

Cacao itself has a very rich bitter taste and is high in iron, magnesium, and antioxidants. Cacao contains B-vitamins, and It has also been shown to promote immunity, lower blood pressure and cholesterol. It is also nature’s most concentrated source of theobromine; a psychoactive ingredient which stimulates and energizes the human body. Theobromine is derived from the Greek, theo (“god”) + broma (“food”) and so is known as “food of the gods”. Cacao provides a boost of energy without the crash of other stimulants.

On a chemical level cacao can help to increase the flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body releasing endorphins and dopamine, the feel-good hormones which open the pathways of love, creativity, healing and soul truths. With this in mind cacao has long been used as a medicine because of it’s power to connect the physical, mental and spiritual bodies promoting a more holistic sense of wellness.

In the modern world some promoted benefits in consuming cacao regularly include; increased creativity, compassion, conscious connection and spirituality as well as productivity and increased physical ability.

Eliana Cuevas - Latin Trio

  • Algoma Conservatory of Music - The Loft (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Through years of touring around the world, across Canada, and collaborating with Juno and Grammy Award-winning performers, Eliana Cuevas has grown into an accomplished singer-songwriter and bandleader with unlimited colors in her compositional and lyrical palette.

Among her honors are the Canadian National Jazz Award for Latin Jazz Artist of the Year, two Toronto Independent Music Awards for Best World Music Artist, an Independent Music Award for Best Latin Album, and a World Solo Artist of the Year Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Eliana has released 6 albums of original music to this date: Cohesión (2001), Ventura (2004) Vidas (2007), Espejo (2013), Golpes y Flores (2017), and most recently El Curruchá (2021).

On her most recent album, El Curruchá, featuring the legendary, late Aquiles Báez, Venezuelan-Canadian singer/songwriter Eliana Cuevas returned to her Latin American roots, offering up a nostalgic homage to the music she grew up listening to in her homeland of Venezuela. The result is a beautifully intimate performance, by turns playful and deeply emotional, featuring virtuosic guitar and vocal work.

“A major international talent that’s on its way.” – The Toronto Star, Canada

“Musical class on an international Jazz level meets driving Caribbean rhythms and first-class Latin.” – Hamburg Morning Daily, Germany

“If you could buy only one contemporary Latin album this year, this might well be the one. I am very impressed! Eliana Cuevas is a knockout on every level.” – Gapplegate Music Review, New York, USA
