The business was founded in its current location in 1952, 69 years ago. Savoy's will be celebrating an astounding total of 70 years of business within the Sault Ste Marie area next year, a grand feat showcasing its continued endurance. The founders of this business, John Anthoine and Edmond Rosset heralded from Savoie, a small area in France. Seeking a better life, they moved from France and settled in Sault Ste Marie in 1952, where their impassioned endeavours in jewellery eventually took hold as they established Savoy's, named after their home region, with only a small selection of jewellery to sell to the public.
"When it first opened, it was just a small store in its current location. Eventually, they acquired the rest of the building and expanded the store," Nicholas Rosset says about the store's history and evolution.
Edmond's twin sons, Rodger and Richard, followed in their father's footsteps and developed an innate interest in jewellery and Savoy's. Today, Savoy's continues to be a family-owned business with Richard's son Nicholas and Nicholas's cousin Ryan establishing themselves as the future of Savoy's Jewellers.
Savoy's Jewellers has maintained its roots in Sault Ste Marie over the many years since its opening and the city and its residents that have shaped them are vital to Savoy's.
“We love it here in Sault Ste Marie. We strongly believe that this is a good community, and we try to provide good service and valuable business to the city," Rosset enthuses about the community.
The appreciation and trust Savoy's holds towards the city is mutual as Savoy's has maintained many loyal customers in their store over the years. And in turn, Savoy's expresses their appreciation towards the community by making charitable donations to various places in Sault Ste Marie including, the Sault Symphony Orchestra, the Comedy Guild, as well as local sports teams.
"We really do truly believe in supporting the community and it pays off by having the community come back and support you," Rosset exclaims. The longstanding relationship between Savoy's and Sault Ste Marie cannot be understated as Savoy's Jewellers has been a part of the residents' most important special occasions, like birthdays, engagements, and weddings for nearly seven decades.
Despite Savoy's near 70-year-old roots in Sault Ste Marie, the jewellery store has adapted and endured to achieve modernity by using technologies like laser equipment and utilizing online resources to promote their business on their comprehensive website and through social media. Although Savoy's Jewellers has adopted modern-day business practices, it remains a timeless fixture in Sault Ste Marie.
